SSO and Thespian Conference Grants
The SSO continues to raise funds to bring deserving Thespians to Conference! Thespians who are active in their troupes and who have financial hardship will have an opportunity to apply for a Conference Registration Grant. These monies will be raised through coin wars as well as Star Ducks. SSO will have the coin war buckets, and ducks can be purchased at the SSO booth.
There are 7 conference grants available for this year. The application deadline is September 17, 2011. Applications may be faxed to Kimberly Staples (770-732-7570), emailed (kimberly.staples@bufordcityschools.org), or delivered in person at the first planning session. Please make sure that you hand it personally to Kimberly. No applications will be accepted after the deadline. Students receiving grants will be notified via email.


Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS!
This is a charity that the SSO strongly supports. Broadway Cares is a New York based organization that provides relief for people already living with AIDS. It does not sponsor research to find a cure for AIDS. A live auction will be held at conference.


Student Achievement Awards
Is there a technician or performer in your troupe that just exceeds all expectations? Is there someone who does so much but doesn’t ever seem to get enough credit? Is there someone who brings something amazing to your troupe? If so, you may wish to nominate them for a student achievement award. One technical award and one performance award will be given. The Student Achievement Award is a chance to be recognized for extraordinary achievement in one of these two areas.

Nominations are done online, and the deadline for entries is December 5, 2011. The recipients are chosen by the SSO. Self nominations are acceptable. Please participate in this opportunity to recognize an individual that gives whole heartedly to their craft!
